ACL Rehab & Return to Sport
Prehab, post surgery rehab and objective return to sport testing, led by a physiotherapist who is also a certified strength coach.
CSCS
More than getting the pain out
Tearing your ACL is one of the toughest setbacks an athlete can face. Whether you are preparing for surgery, recovering from an ACL reconstruction, or managing your knee without surgery, the goal is the same: get back to your sport stronger, more confident, and with less risk of reinjury.
At Ben Performance & Physiotherapy, ACL rehab is led by Benson Amihere, a registered physiotherapist (MScPT) and certified strength and conditioning specialist (CSCS). That matters, because the final stages of ACL rehab look a lot more like performance training than traditional physio.

How ACL rehab works with us
Assessment
A full look at your knee, strength, movement and goals. You leave with a clear plan and timeline.
Early recovery
Restore range of motion, calm down swelling, get your quad firing and get you walking normally.
Strength
Progressive training for quads, hamstrings, hips and calves, using real gym equipment, not just bands.
Run, jump, cut
Return to running, landing mechanics and change of direction, progressed by how your knee responds.
Return to sport
Objective testing before you go back to full practice and games.
Cleared by data, not the calendar
Going back to sport based on time alone is not enough. Athletes who meet objective criteria before returning have a lower risk of reinjury. Our protocol draws on the Fowler Kennedy framework and tests five areas.
We compare your injured leg to your healthy leg (your limb symmetry index), so you, your parents and your coach can see exactly where you stand.
Did your rehab somewhere else? Testing is available on its own.
One coach, start to finish
One clinician
The same person from your first visit to your return to sport. No handoffs, no starting over.

Common questions
How long does ACL rehab take?
After ACL reconstruction, most athletes need at least nine months before returning to cutting and pivoting sports, and many take longer. Your timeline depends on your surgery, your sport and how you progress through each stage.
Do I need a referral?
No. You can book physiotherapy in Ontario without a doctor's referral. Check your extended health plan in case it has its own requirements.
Should I start physio before surgery?
Often, yes. Prehab that reduces swelling, restores range of motion and builds strength before surgery can make recovery afterward smoother. Your surgeon and physiotherapist can guide the right approach for you.
Can I do testing if I did my rehab somewhere else?
Yes. Book an assessment and we will run the full testing battery and give you a clear summary of the results.
